So-Hyun Bae is the designer-writer-in-residence 2026–2027

Growing up trilingual and between countries, learning new languages became a way for So-Hyun to navigate through different environments. Naturally, these linguistic adaptations led her to develop a deeper interest in languages and to question their written and typographic representations. Her work constantly looks for utopic dispositions that could hold together the languages and cultures she has amassed over time.

In 2018, as her master’s graduation project, she created Syllaba, a typeface that applies the logic of the Korean writing system to French. Between 2018 and 2020, she conducted research on multilingual design at the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique (Nancy, France), investigating a personal form of multilingualism through typographic and literary experimentation. Since 2023, she has been teaching typography and graphic design at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (Strasbourg, France), where she previously studied. Along with Alexis Zurflüh and Jan Kirpal, she is also co-founder of ÉTÉ, a design studio based between Paris and Munich.
