Centre for Text Margins studies typography as writing and reading. Our programme consists of symposia, publications, exhibitions, an archive, and a residency.
From the margins, it’s easiest to see what’s at the heart of things. To understand typographic knowledge, we study textual practices that live in the periphery. For us, this means both experimental and accessible writing, and the diverse forms they take. Read more about the premises of our work.
Amid research groups, design studios, and writers, we are a liminal entity producing knowledge about writing through text design, making, and caretaking. Our aim is to connect graphic designers and writers, designership and writership, matter and discourse.
Centre for Text Margins operates within Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (ARTS) and is funded by Kone Foundation. Founded in 2025, we are currently in our pilot phase.
